Professionalism Programme Best Practice Guide: Part 9 - Managing Technology Innovation
Best Practice Guide
Product Information
During 2006/7 the National Computing Centre launched the IS Professionalism Programme – a programme which aimed to recast IS as the key enabler of business transformation. A number of objectives were set during a series of 10 workshops. The outputs of each workshop have been synthesised into a Best Practice Guide by Bob Jarvis, an IS/IT veteran with over 40 years experience.
This Best Practice Guide is the output of the ninth IS Professionalism workshop which identified the what, why and when (and when not) of technology adoption/refresh.
Technology does not stand still. Every day we hear about new developments that will 'revolutionise' IS/IT. The hyperbole usually exceeds the reality. How do we spot a genuine advance that will apply to us - now - or at least soon? In this Best Practice Guide, we explore how to spot a winner, how to relate the advance to our current situation and how to go about bringing realisation in our enterprise.
This guide addresses the following principle areas:
- The triggers for technology change or refreshment
- Management approaches to support technology adoption decision-making
- How to arrive at the best architectural solution particularly in the areas of –
- manageability/migration
- challenges of data migration
- How to measure the return on investment
- How to assess risk in technology investments
We explore how to develop a compelling business case for technology adoption.
