Interoperability
Adherence to the e-Government Interoperability Framework (e-GIF) is mandatory for all new systems and legacy systems used to deliver public services electronically. This includes projects within private sector organisations that develop and/or deliver public services.
In Scotland, the e-GIF is incorporated into the Openscotland Information Age Framework (OSIAF).
To facilitate uptake of and compliance with the e-GIF and the OSIAF, NCC works closely with their respective owners, the Cabinet Office and the Scottish Executive Public Sector Reform and Efficieny Division.
NCC provides a suite of services in support of the e-GIF and OSIAF:
- The e-GIF Accreditation Authority www.egifaccreditation.org
- The e-GIF Compliance Assessment Service www.egifcompliance.org
The e-GIF Accreditation Authority
The e-GIF Accreditation Authority offers organisational accreditation of capacity to deliver e-GIF compliant solutions and certification of an individual's e-GIF related skills at Foundation and Expert levels. The Authority also accredits e-GIF related training courses. The benefits of accreditation and certification include:
- lower technical risk
- lower costs of sale & procurement
- making best practice common practice
The e-GIF Compliance Assessment Service
The e-GIF Compliance Assessment Service is a web-based managed service for e-Government officers, public and private sector project managers, developers and consultants. Use of the assessment tool at regular points through a project lifecycle helps track of how well work complies with the latest issue of e-GIF. The benefits of using the service include:
- fast economical access to information about e-GIF
- access to essential information in an easily searchable and digestible format
- regular updates with the latest versions of e-GIF
- e-mail access to expertise in standards implementation
